Wenda is an emerging artist from Yarrawonga in North East Victoria. She began painting late in 2017 after retiring from primary school teaching. She initially completed a basic floristry course before picking up a paint brush and tackling a canvas. It changed her life!!

Wenda paints in an abstract style and uses a lot of bright colour to express herself. She enjoys the challenge of making colours pop by introducing contrasting colours and loves to experiment with other implements to apply paint as well as using her fingers.

Wenda compares painting to flower arranging as she feels it is all about the balance of shapes, colours and textures that make for a good composition.

Wenda has painted in water colours but prefers acrylic to achieve the layers of texture she is seeking that give her a solid base for mark making. She is experimenting with collage in her paintings and has used pastels, posca pens, skewers and her finger nails for making marks!

Wenda is inspired greatly by the environment particularly the ocean and she challenges herself to create a story that is uniquely hers.
